VILHELM BLOMGREN: To land the role of Pelle in Midsommar, the star had to shoot a video of walking about 100 feet in a forest before she could start acting out the scene. A strange request, no doubt, but certainly in line with the tone of the film itself (set in a Swedish commune). Photo: A24

HARVEY STEPHENS: The protagonist of Omen must certainly have been disturbing, being the incarnation of the Antichrist. For this reason, during the auditions all the children were asked to physically attack the director Richard Donner. In response, the future interpreter of the film decided to claw the filmmaker’s face and kick him in the groin. Photo: Fox

NICHOLAS HOULT: Anyone who has seen a film by Yorgos Lanthimos knows that the director only curates very peculiar scripts and, therefore, it is not surprising that his castings are also “strange”. Robert Harley’s performer in La Favorita reported that the author would ask him to imagine force fields on set and to hum while colleagues delivered their lines. Undoubtedly a weird method but it worked perfectly. Photo: Fox

EMMA STONE: Let’s stay on La Favorita, however, talking about one of the stars of the film, who was asked to “pant as if she were giving birth” while reciting her lines. Quite a weird way to test the actors but, again, it definitely worked! Photo: Fox

NIKOLAJ COSTER-WALDAU: During the audition of All Against Him the actor was asked to play the scene where the protagonist is forced to run to the bathroom after having a drink laced with a laxative. The behind-the-scenes details are not well known, but the star said she found the request amusing and not embarrassing. Photo: Fox

KEIRA KNIGHTLEY: To get the part in A Dangerous Method, the actress had to show director David Cronenberg all of her “sex faces” – a detail that’s hardly surprising, when you think about the synopsis of the film. In telling the anecdote, she also revealed that on the best of her the Skype call (thanks to which she did the audition) was blocked, leaving her in a strange pose but, apparently, sexy. GEORGE LAZENBY: James Bond has always been a skilled seducer and his Bond Girls are quite popular with the public. Precisely for this reason, however, the star had to prove to the producers that he was not gay. In fact, it seems that he was housed in an apartment and was asked to have relations with some women (while a man would have stayed to see what was happening in the room). At least embarrassing (even for those times)! Photo: United Artists

CARA DELEVINGNE: The actress took on the role of the enchantress in Suicide Squad and to get the role she was “forced” to search for a forest at night, undress and run howling like a wolf. Bizarre, no doubt, but the interpreter spoke of it as an almost liberating moment. Photo: Warner Bros.
