For the past month, the sound of the Theater Saint-Denis has been vibrating Aquarius And let the Sunshine In While Serge Denoncourt staged the famous musical Hatred, On seeing the poster, we are instantly immersed in the hippie fashion of the 1970s.
The designer of the costumes, Pierre-Guy Lapointe, “had an act of sartorial humility, as this fashion (1968) had not yet been retrieved and marketed by designers”. His research work and his meetings with the former hippies of the time greatly inspired him. “They were young people who were very poor and did everything by hand. So I put this craftsmanship of the garments into the development of garments that were intended to be a clothing revolution,” he explains. Only a few pieces were found, including Philippe Touzel’s suede jacket, the original jacket from the time, the rest were handmade by local artisans.
“I made a Polaroid in 1968. These are very simple clothes. Natural colors like indigo blue. Basic materials like raw cotton, wood and leather. The prints were created by screen printing or freehand,” says Lapointe.
Their goal is to avoid anything too trendy and stay true to the personalities of each of the 24 artists. “I didn’t want to fall into the trap of hippie dress, because there are so many clothes inspired by that era in stores now, with patchwork, fringe, tie-dye and macrame,” he says.
It is true that designers have been constantly drawing on this decade, constantly revising it. Also, here are some looks of stars from the past months whose outfits were reminiscent of Aesthetic Hatred ,
musical comedy Hatred Will continue at Montreal’s Théâtre Saint-Denis through July 30, then at Quebec’s Salle Albert-Rousseau in December.

Cardi B and her Birkins collection

Actress and singer Jane Birkin passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at the age of 76. In addition to her artistic work, she left behind one of her most famous fashion accessories… a bag with her name written on it, Birkin.
Long story short: During a Paris-London flight in 1984, Jane complained to then-director of Hermès, Jean-Louis Dumas, that she couldn’t find a shopping bag to suit her needs as a young mother. They continue talking and after Jane points out a bag four times larger than Kelly’s (one of Hermès’ best sellers named in honor of Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco), he asks Jane to draw a sketch of her ideal bag. He builds it and the Birkin is born.

This very simple bag is quite spacious and has separate space for a bottle as well. Since then, the Birkin has gone down in size. Its rarity (only a few bags are produced annually by the house) and its staggering price (in the five to six figures) make it a cult item that the stars are coveting.
Rumor has it that Victoria Beckham has created a collection of about a hundred models. Rapper Cardi B is also an avid fan. In July 2021, she posted a photo on Instagram with “some” of her multicolored Birkins!
Jane Birkin remained faithful to “her” bag and carried it with the casualness and simplicity for which she was known.
