22 wineries win Tastavinas do Penedes competition

Last Friday, the award ceremony for the 57th edition of the prestigious Tastavins DO Penedès competition took place in an event held at the Vilafranca del Penedès Auditorium. The competition, organized by the Tastávince Penedes Academy and supported by the Penedes Denomination of Origin and Villafranca City Council, awarded prizes to 22 wineries in seven different categories, thus establishing itself as one of the most important wine competitions on the Catalan scene. The gala, directed by Judith Cortina and Davide Jobe, creators of the Enoturista.cat portal, was followed by a live audience at the Vilafranca Auditorium as well as an online audience via Penedès TV. The event managed to attract over 200 people including winery representatives, academics and institutional dignitaries.

At the gala, Max Margaleff, President of the Academy of Tastevines Penedes, emphasized the importance of the number of samples presented in this edition, nearly 150 from forty wineries, and highlighted the Academy’s commitment to promoting wines from Penedes.

On 24 April, in the Vilafranca del Penedès Enológica building, an outstanding panel of 30 tasters, composed of oenologists, sommeliers, specialized journalists and representatives of specialized stores and distributors, blind-tasted and qualified the presented wines.

Award-winning wineries include Familia Torres, Albate i Noya, Estel d’Argent, U Más U, Aymar and Parato, all of which received prestigious gold medals in their respective categories. Award-winning wines, from white and Crianza white to rosé, red, Crianza red, classic Penedès sparkling wine and Zerel lo wine, are testimony to the richness and diversity of viticulture in the Penedès region.

Once the award ceremony was over, attendees had the opportunity to taste the award-winning wines, thus celebrating the excellence of Catalan viticulture and the continued promotion of Penedès wines.
