On January 18, the asteroid (7482) 1994 PC1 will approach the Earth. NASA has described it as “potentially dangerous”. However, there is no need to worry – the object is expected to fly nearly two million kilometers from our planet.
Asteroid (7482) 1994 PC1 was discovered in 1994. Discovery at the Siding Spring Observatory in Australia was made by Robert McNaught. She flew near Earth for the last time in 1933, on January 17 to be precise. The next rapprochement is to take place on January 18 … 2105.
Now the object will be seen near Earth on January 18 at 22:51 CEST. The asteroid will fly at a dizzying speed of 19.56 kilometers per second and can be observed through a telescope of at least 15 cm. Back in 1994, NASA described the asteroid as “potentially dangerous.”
This time, however, there is no need to worry. The asteroid will fly 1.93 million kilometers from Earth – more than 5 times the distance from Earth to the Moon. There is no risk that it will collide with our planet anytime soon.
