– Imposing sanctions against the head of the government or the head of Russia would be an extreme action comparable to breaking relations, said a spokesman for the Kremlin quoted by the Russian TASS agency.
Answering the question of whether Russia would be ready to answer in a similar way, Peskov stated that “Russia is always ready and will do whatever is in the country’s interest.”
The talks held this week are unlikely to bring any breakthrough in Russian-American relations. Dmitry Peskov stated that further talks are possible in the near future. – Russia has never lacked the political will for further talks. On the contrary: we have met with reluctance from our partners many times, he said.
– But one thing needs to be understood: the trial cannot continue for the sake of trial on critical matters; there must be a specific result, a specific answer, he added.
Talks at the OSCE forum
On January 1, Poland formally began its annual presidency of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
On Thursday, Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau participated in the meeting of the Permanent Council of the OSCE in Vienna. The Council is a body that meets weekly at the level of Permanent Representatives of the OSCE Participating States. Meetings are held several times a year at the level of foreign ministers. The first meeting of the Council in the new year is used to present the program of the next presidency.
Today’s meeting concludes a series of three Russian-American talks on security architecture in Europe.
