Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will reprise their roles in the new TV series.

The future of The Walking Dead it’s rosy, despite the devastating and deadly zombie apocalypse. While the series continues its journey along the boulevard of the sunset, with the second and penultimate part of the final season being aired in these weeks (in Italy streaming on Disney+ every Monday), the American AMC has ordered the production of another spin-off, Isle of the Deadcentered on Maggie Greene and Negan, the loved-hated characters played by Lauren Cohan And Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Isle of the Dead: The details of the spin-off

Fifth spin-off of the successful franchise based on the comic by Robert Kirkmanin 2023 Isle of the Dead will follow the unlikely couple (in case you don’t remember, Negan killed Maggie’s husband and a lot of other people we loved) in a completely new setting: a post-apocalyptic Manhattan cut off from the very mainland time ago. What the two protagonists find is a crumbling city filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world filled with anarchy, danger, wonder and terror.

Isle of the Dead

AMC has ordered a 6-episode first season, written by the veteran of The Walking Dead Eli Jorne and executive produced by him with Cohan and Morgan, clearly supervised by Scott M. Gimple, head of content for the franchise. “Jorné has created something absolutely special,” commented Cohan. “I can’t wait for fans to see what we have in store for Maggie and Negan.” Morgan added, “Walkers in an urban setting have always been a really cool image, but 5th Avenue, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty? Greatest city in the world?!? The setting is amazing but the story created by Eli Jorné is even better. Fasten your seatbelts, people, Isle of the Dead will reinvent the universe of The Walking Dead“.

More spin-offs to come

We know well Fear the Walking Deadinitially a prequel, on the air for seven seasons and already renewed for an eighth, and The Walking Dead: World Beyonda sort of teen approach to the universe TWD extension, which ended last year after two seasons. A still untitled sequel will also arrive in 2023 which, in the same way as Isle of the Deadwill follow the next adventure of the tried and tested pairing of Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier, the beloved characters played by Norman Reedus And Melissa McBride.
