A YEAR TO REMEMBER: APRIL, THE DRAW FOR QATAR 2022

April, the month of the World Cup draw in Qatar then won by Argentina a few days ago. Group E was the one with the most charm, with Spain and Germany drawn together: the passage of both was almost obvious, but as we well know, the field gave a different verdict.

WORLD CUP 2022 DRAW WILL BE SPAIN-GERMANY, AWAY WITH QATAR-ECUADOR

Qatar-Ecuador will be the match that will inaugurate the 2022 World Cup on 21 November. This was established by the draw held today in Doha in which the eight groups for the elimination phase were defined. The national team of the host country was not very lucky, having drawn the Netherlands and Senegal champions of Africa in addition to the South Americans. Germany, on paper the strongest in the second tier, ended up in Spain’s group. Let’s see the groups one by one.

WORLD CUP 2022, GROUP A

Group A is that of Qatar Asian champions and reinforced by many naturalized Brazilians. Holland are the favourites, but watch out for Senegal who recently won the African Cup of Nations and showed great defensive solidity, with Koulibaly, as well as plenty of talent in attack, with Sadio Mané. Ecuador away from home could struggle.

WORLD CUP 2022, GROUP B

England are clear favourites, with the other three national teams in the group fighting for second place. The United States didn’t particularly shine in the qualifiers, Iran, with Azmoun and other players playing in Europe, could be the surprise, waiting for the winner of the European playoff between Wales and who will go through between Scotland and Ukraine.

WORLD CUP 2022 DRAW, GROUP C

Argentina shouldn’t risk it if it confirms itself at the levels seen in the last two years, with the triumph in the America’s Cup, a qualification conquered without suffering and above all with a still open series of 31 consecutive useful results. But Mexico and Poland, with the stars Corona and Lewandowski, are not to be underestimated. It will be tough for Saudi Arabia.

WORLD CUP 2022 DRAW, GROUP D

World champions France still draw Denmark, just like four years ago: it could bode well. The two European national teams shouldn’t take big risks, neither against Tunisia, nor against the winner of the intercontinental playoff between Lapadula’s Peru, who could be the only Italian to play in the World Cup, and the winner of Australia-United Arab Emirates.

WORLD CUP 2022, GROUP E

Spain-Germany will be the most fascinating match of the elimination phase, between two very strong national teams who are hoping for a relaunch after the recent missteps. However, do not get distracted, even if Japan does not have great talents, nor do Costa Rica and New Zealand, who will fight for a place in the intercontinental playoff in June.

WORLD CUP 2022, GROUP F

Belgium has lost first place in the Fifa rankings and, even if usually they always do their duty in the elimination rounds, this time they could risk something more, considering that in the group there are world runners-up Croatia, who however no longer have the totem Mandzukic, and Canada by David and Davies, as well as Morocco by Hakimi, which does not have big stars ahead.

WORLD CUP 2022 DRAW, GROUP G

Super favorites Brazil, simply because they dominated the South American qualifiers and showed that they have acquired a European mentality, with great attention to the defensive phase. Of course, the group won’t be a walk in the park, with Switzerland knocking out France at the European Championships and finishing ahead of Italy in qualifying. But also Vlahovic and Milinkovic’s Serbia are bad customers, while Cameroon didn’t convince in the African Cup.

WORLD CUP 2022 DRAW, GROUP H

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal didn’t go too badly, on the contrary: Uruguay boasts a great tradition, but there isn’t much behind Luiz Suarez and, rather than battling with the Lusitanians for first place, they will probably have to sweat through qualification for the round of 16 both against Son’s South Korea, who against Ghana may be technically poor, but physically a tough nut to crack.
