Premiere at the Rome Film Fest 2022 (Alice nella città) arrives Armageddon Time – The Time of the Apocalypsethe drama starring Anne Hathaway, Anthony Hopkins and Jeremy Strong directed by acclaimed director James Gray (Civilization Lost, Ad Astra).

James Gray – biographical notes

James Gray made his 1994 debut at age 25 with Little Odessa , a highly successful film that received the Critics Award at the Deauville Film Festival and the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival. In 2000 Gray wrote and directed The Yards , his second feature film and his first film with Joaquin Phoenix, which he will continue to star in his next three films. The cast included Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, Faye Dunaway, Ellen Burstyn and James Caan. The drama was presented in competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 2000. The thriller film Owners of the night (2007) stars Mark Wahlberg, Joaquin Phoenix, Eva Mendes and Robert Duvall. The film received a César nomination for best foreign film and was presented in competition at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. His fourth work, Two Lovers (2008), she received Independent Spirit Award nominations for Best Director and Best Female Lead. The film stars Joaquin Phoenix alongside Gwyneth Paltrow, Vanessa Shaw and Isabella Rossellini. In 2016 she directs Charlie Hunnam, Robert Pattinson and Sienna Miller in the biographical drama Lost civilization which tells the true story of the British explorer Perceval Fawcett, who disappeared while searching for a mysterious legendary city in the Amazon jungle in the 1920s. In 2019 Gray takes us into space with Brad Pitt astronaut in Ad Astra, which follows a son who arrives at the outer fringes of the solar system to find his missing father and solve a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. The film received an Oscar nomination for Best Sound. Born in New York, Gray grew up in Queens and attended the USC School of Cinema-Television.


  • The original music of the film is by the composer Christopher Spelman, regular collaborator of director James Gray. Spelman also made music Lost civilization and Once Upon a Time in New York, arranged the music for Two Lovers and collaborated as a music consultant for The Masters of the Night and The Yards.
