Amber Heard appeals, invokes the First Amendment – Cinema

As she had predicted in the aftermath of the verdict, Amber Heard appealed the outcome of the trial that saw her challenge her ex-husband Johnny Depp in court, leaving him with broken bones and sentencing her to pay over ten million dollars of damage. Heard says “mistakes” made during the Fairfax, Virginia trial prevented a “fair and just” verdict.
“We think the court made mistakes that prevented a fair verdict in line with the First Amendment on freedom of expression,” said a spokesperson for the actress Depp sued for defamation based on an opinion piece on the report. Washington Post in which she, without mentioning the name of her ex-husband, described herself as a “survivor of domestic violence”.
For his part, Johnny Depp said he was “confident” that the appeal will have no ‘consequences: “The jury – said a spokesman for the former’ Pirate of the Caribbean ‘- listened to the numerous evidence presented during a six-week trial and is arrived at a clear and unanimous verdict that it was Amber who defamed Mr. Depp several times. We have faith in our arguments and that the verdict will not be changed. ”
