ANATOMY TEXTURE OF A SCANDAL
Anatomy of a scandal is a British miniseries created for Netflix by the award-winning David E. Kelley (Ally McBeal, Big Little Lies, The Practice) together with Melissa James Gibson, based on Sarah Vaughan’s best-selling novel of the same name. Halfway between psychological thriller and legal drama, the miniseries tells the life of the British upper class through personal and political scandals in which the truth is suspended between justice and privilege.
James and Sophie Whitehouse live an idyllic and elitist reality. With a career as a minister and a loving family, James (Rupert Friend, Homeland) seems to have no obstacles. Until a scandalous secret comes out: the man is accused of sexual assault by a woman with whom he has admitted to having had an affair. For him “it was just sex”, but Sophie (Sienna Miller, The Loudest Voice), while defending it publicly, knows well that there is something else underneath.
But both have to deal with Kate Woodcroft’s steadfastness (Michelle Dockery, Downton Abbey), the tenacious advocate of the prosecution determined to obtain justice. His trials risk threatening the Whitehouse’s marriage, his reputation and even Westminster.
