Android 13 available in stable version for Pixel

Google released – somewhat surprisingly – Android 13: the first developer preview was published in February, and now, six months later, the owners of Pixel smartphones can already install the new version of the operating system that brings with it several new features in terms of security, performance and user experience.

The roll out, therefore, concerns only the Pixels, then it will be the turn of other brands “later in the year“:

  • NOW: Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a
  • WITHIN THE END OF THE YEAR: Samsung, Asus, HMD, iQOO, Motorola, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Sharp, Sony, Tecno, vivo, Xiaomi and others
  • HOW TO CHECK: Settings> System> System Update

WHAT CHANGES IN SUBSTANCE

We have already discussed at length about the innovations introduced by Android 13 in these months of beta (see the articles above, each of these punctually reports the contents of the updates). However, it seems appropriate to take up the main aspects, and to do so we follow the scheme of Google that has wanted to summarize the new to Android 13 in … 13 points.

  1. Material You: the interface design does not change but evolves, it is increasingly customizable by extending to non-Google apps. The colors become more uniform based on the chosen background.
  2. from now on an account will be there language system, another the language of each app: with Android 13 it is in fact possible to manually select the preferred language for each application installed on the smartphone.
  3. customization is also extended to media playerwhich changes depending on the type of content you are listening to, song or podcast that it is.
  4. improves the sleep mode with background darkening and dark mode.
  5. ability to select photos and videos to be shared with apps that request it.
  6. clipboard more secure: text or passwords copied to your smartphone will be automatically deleted after a short period of time.
  7. notifications from selected apps only, downloaded apps require explicit permission to send notifications (was previously by default).
  8. Spatial Audio (on compatible headphones for head tracking).
  9. ability to do it streaming of messaging apps on the Chromebook so you can send messages directly from the laptop (incoming).
  10. Bluetooth LE Audio makes its debut on Android 13 bringing low latency in the audio and, therefore, greater synchronization (even listening from multiple devices at the same time).
  11. Possibility of copy text or images from the smartphone by gluing it to the tablet (or vice versa) – coming soon.
  12. multitasking on tablet: new taskbar that allows you to see all the apps at the same time and to drag & drop any app on the screen in split screen mode.
  13. on tablets, the palm of the hand and stylus are recorded as distinct touchesso that unwanted hand touches on the display are not taken into account by the system.

With the debut of the stable version of Android 13, betas do not go on vacation, quite the contrary. The QPR (Quarterly Platform Release) with the release of QPR1 in September for the Feature Drop (stable, therefore) in December. The Android 13 QPR beta program will end in June 2023 with the release of the Feature Drop of the month.
