Angelina Jolie decided to appear on Instagram to use his reach for a good cause. The actress’s first official post was to cast a vote for deprived Afghans.
Angelina Jolie has finally joined the Instagram community to – in her style – use the platform to spread awareness and help people in crisis. All the fans who expected joyful photos from everyday life were warned at the beginning: “I appeared on Instagram to share the stories of people from all over the world – people who fight for their basic rights.” The actress caused a great stir with the first entry – and it is not surprising that she decided to publish the letter she received from a teenager from Afghanistan.
The author of the letter described her many fears. She is afraid that the return of the Taliban will prevent her from going back to school and will destroy all her dreams. He emphasizes limitations and impotence with the words: “we are trapped again”. Of course, Jolie withheld the data of a teenage Afghan woman. In her post, she commented on the letter:
At the moment, the people of Afghanistan are losing the opportunity to communicate on social media and express themselves freely. (…) It is terrible to see Afghans being displaced again because of the fear and insecurity that have gripped their country. It is inconceivable a disaster to sacrifice so much time and money, shed blood and lose your life just to get there. (…) Like the others involved – I will not turn away. I will continue to look for ways to help. I hope you will join me.
The actress, director and philanthropist gained 5 million followers since Friday, and her first post in less than an hour gained 25,000. likes (currently there are over 2 million). In her entry, she also expressed outrage that Afghan refugees – to quote “some of the most talented people in the world” – have been treated as a burden for decades. She has met many local women who are fighting for education; stresses that Afghans would achieve much more if they had not lacked the resources and support. Jolie came into contact with refugees fleeing the Taliban twenty years ago, visiting the border of Afghanistan two weeks before the attacks on the World Trade Center.
The actress has been working for many years for charity, including for refugees and women around the world, she is an ambassador of UNICEF’s goodwill and publicizes many issues, thanks to which they receive due attention.
