AngloGold Ashanti Limited announces management change

AngloGold Ashanti has announced the appointment of Richard Jordanson as Chief Operating Officer, effective October 1, 2023. He joined AngloGold Ashanti in 2012 as Managing Director of Sunrise Dam, Australia, where he was responsible for the strategy for the transition from open pit to mine. In April 2017, Richard was appointed Managing Director of the Gita Gold Mine, AngloGold Ashanti’s largest producing asset, where he led the team in Tanzania for over four years. During this period, Gita was successful in advancing underground production on three different mining fronts, establishing a new opencast mine at Nyamaulilima and nearly doubling the mined reserves. Throughout this transformation, Gita has been AngloGold Ashanti’s safest operation, breaking all safety records and winning the AGA Global Safety Award for three years in a row.

Gita is now universally recognized as one of the world’s leading Tier 1 gold mines with a bright future. In 2021, Richard was appointed Senior Vice President of AngloGold Ashanti’s Ghana-Tanzania Business Unit, leading and supporting the development of a strong team in both countries to drive performance. Meanwhile, Gita continues to improve, Obuasi continues progress towards a world-class mine, and Iduaprium remains safe and reliable on budget ahead of its joint venture proposal with Tarakwa to build the largest gold mine in Africa Is. ,

Richard brings to this position over 38 years of industry experience gained in the gold, iron ore, nickel, zinc and lead mining sectors. At AngloGold Ashanti he has proven he can add value to the portfolio by bringing new operations into production on time and on budget and overseeing complex transitions to underground mining. Richard holds a BSc ACSM Mining degree from Camborne School of Mines in Cornwall, UK and a First Class Mine Manager Certificate from Western Australia.

Richard will replace Marcelo Godoy, who has been interim COO since July following the retirement of Ludwig Ebers. AngloGold would like to express its gratitude to the Ashanti Board and Management for the invaluable work Marcelo did prior to Richard taking over the role of COO and for the way he has approached the management of the production portfolio.
