Second appointment at the Partenio Cinema with “VISIONI”. On the program “On the island of Bergman” by Mia Hansen-Løve. The review will be held on 23 March at the following times: 17.30 – 19.30 – 21.30.
What to expect
Chris (Vicky Krieps) and Tony (Tim Roth) are both directors. They love each other but their relationship has lost its passion over time. To work on their respective projects, they decide to spend a summer on the island of Fårö, the same beloved by Ingmar Bergman, a filmmaker of whom both are passionate. The couple will work in her home and will sleep in the same bed in which the Swedish director filmed Scenes from a wedding. This is where French director Mia Hansen-Løve starts for her first English-language film, On Bergman’s Island – presented in Cannes – and then transports us to a story in which fiction and reality influence each other.
The Baltic Sea island becomes a stage in which Hansen-Løve stages a double love story and the tale of an emancipation with autobiographical contours (she and Olivier Assayas were a couple for a long time). Chris on that island will find her voice and will be able to get out of the shadow of the companion / director. She will do it through the screenplay she is writing: the story of a director, Amy (Mia Wasikowska), and her impossible love for Joseph (Anders Danielsen Lie), consummated right on Bergman Island that comes to life on the screen thanks to the words of her.
A sensual, luminous and full of desire parenthesis (which will remain in your mind long after the vision), elements now absent in the relationship between Chris and Tony, which ends up going beyond the boundaries of fiction and intertwining with reality, creating two narrative levels in communication with each other. The figure of the Swedish director pervades the story without suffocating it, constitutes a tribute to it and, at the same time, a pretext to tell the emotional and professional evolution of Vicky. A film that celebrates the creativity and imagination of a free female who finds inspiration in the world around her. A warm and dreamy vision.
