Only a few days to go until the UniCredit Firenze Open, scheduled at Palazzo Wanny from 10 to 16 October next. The event was presented this morning in a press conference held on the fascinating stage of the Galleria degli Specchi in Palazzo Medici Riccardi, which was attended by the President of the Italian Tennis Federation, Angelo Binaghi, the Mayor of the city of Florence, Dario Nardella, the President and CEO of Sport and Health, Vito Cozzoli, the Regional Manager Center North of Unicredit, Title Partner of the Firenze Open, Andrea Burchi and the Director of the tournament, Paolo Lorenzi.

The tournament that is about to begin marks the return of great tennis to Florence after 28 years and it does so with a first-class participation field. The most anticipated players are Matteo Berrettini, Jannik Sinner, Lorenzo Musetti and Lorenzo Sonego who, together with foreign stars Felix Auger-Aliassime and Maxime Cressy, allow you to have a roster of high-level participants. Furthermore, the tournament will represent a new opportunity for the very young generation of Italian talents to gain experience thanks to the wild cards for the main draw that will be assigned to Francesco Passaro, Luca Nardi and Francesco Maestrelli, all three in full swing to qualify for the edition. 2022 of the IntesaSanpaolo Next Gen ATP Finals, scheduled in Milan from 8 to 12 November next. The wild cards for the qualifiers (8-9 October) were assigned to Jacopo Berrettini, Matteo’s brother, and to Giulio Zeppieri.

The last time the ATP circuit made a stop in Florence was in 1994, when the twenty-second edition of the CT Firenze tournament was held, which was played on clay. In his roll of honor there are two number 1s in the world: Ilie Nastase, winner in 1973, and Thomas Muster, author of a consecutive hat-trick from 1991 to 1993. There are seven successes for Italian tennis players, among which Paolo’s three victories stand out Bertolucci, obtained in a row from 1975 to 1977.
