ATP Cup 2022. Poland – Argentina: match result and coverage – tennis

The White-Reds already had Georgians and Greeks on the schedule. The stakes with Argentina were therefore high – a group win and a promotion to the semi-finals. Although it was difficult to identify an unambiguous favorite, the Poles did not give their rivals the slightest chance.

They won all three games

Kamil Majchrzak (117th ATP) was the first to enter the court. Although on the other side of the net appeared the much higher ranked Federico Delbonis (44th ATP), the Pole did not have the slightest reason to be afraid. The rival has definitely had his best years behind him. And Majchrzak made great use of it. He started the meeting with the start of the pass, but later he was the dominant party. He caught up with his opponent on the first occasion, then shifted himself into a higher gear and won the set 6: 3.

The course of the second batch was more even. At least until score 6: 6 and the tie-break. In him, the advantage of the Pole was clearer again and it was after the game. The first very important point went to the Poles’ account.

So it is time for the most promising duel between Hurkacz (9th ATP) and Schwartzman (13th ATP). Both gentlemen had faced each other twice and had one victory each. This time the bookmakers gave the player from South America a better chance, but they miscalculated. The resident of Wrocław divided and ruled from the first balls. Suffice it to say that the first set, won by Hurkacz 6: 1, lasted only 23 minutes. The Pole set the point over and he won the second game 6: 4. It was after the competition, the Argentinians had no chance any more, even though there was still a doubles match to be played.

Polish fans had plenty to be happy about as well. Szymon Walków and Jan Zieliński defeated the higher ranked Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni. They needed two tie-breaks for that. The dealers, therefore, took a rematch on the pair, which in 2020 defeated Hurkacz and Łukasz Kubot, giving Argentina a 2-1 victory.

The Poles with all victories won group D and are in the semi-finals of the ATP Cup. In it they will face Spain on Friday.
