A year after the devastating bushfires that burned tens of millions of acres in Australia, the country struggling with one of its worst floods
The Australian authorities have ordered theevacuation of about 40,000 people because of floods on the east coast, responsible for the deaths of nine people. Eleven others are still missing. The torrential rains since the beginning of last week in the regions of Queensland and New South Wales have left a trail of devastationwhose damage has yet to be quantified, and have engulfed cities like Brisbanethe third most populous in the country, and the city of Gympie, as well as Lismore, 600km north of Sydney.
TO Lismorewhere many residents had to take refuge for hours on roofs of their homes, as well as in other cities of the north coast of New South Wales, there were 1,000 rescues, New South Wales head of government Dominique Perrottet explained at a press conference. Going into the details of the devastation, Perrottet said that well 17 areas have been declared disaster areasand which have been issued 26 orders evacuation for about 40,000 people, in addition to five alarms evacuation, affecting another 300,000 people. Right now we are focusing on the north, but very quickly, as we are starting to see in Sydney, le heavy rains and severe ones are moving south, Perrottet warned, referring to the forecast of heavy rainfall starting Tuesday evening in Australia’s most populous city.
