Austria: They took part in a demonstration of the coronersceptics. They will lose their jobs

Workers of several old people’s homes from the city and county of Linz showed up in Vienna at a Saturday anti-vaccination and restriction demonstration with a banner saying: “Linz nursing homes say NO to compulsory vaccinations.”

This was reported by Vice Mayor Karin Hoerzing (SPOe), who considered the employees’ conduct as “crossing the borders”. The company SZL Seniorenzentren Linz GmbH, managing the institutions, also distanced itself from their manifesto and decided to part with these employees.

Hoerzing, who is also chairman of the supervisory board of SZL, emphasizes that she respects the fundamental right to freedom of assembly and the right to freedom of expression. – On the other hand, it is unacceptable that personal opinions are expressed on behalf of the employer, as evidently was the case during the coronasceptics demonstration last Saturday in Vienna – emphasizes Hoerzing.

She adds that the slogan “does not reflect the company’s point of view in any way” and that it further detracts from its “efforts to achieve a high vaccination rate to protect residents”.

According to Hoerzing, it was irresponsible and detrimental to the company by the employees of the Linz seniors’ centers. Therefore, she announced that she would take legal consequences for them, resulting from breaking the labor code.

An additional allegation concerns the failure to comply with the applicable regulations on fighting the pandemic (namely the lack of FFP2 masks, which are mandatory during assemblies of more than 50 people). About 30,000 people took part in Saturday’s demonstration. people from all over the country.

– These were behaviors that destroyed the foundations of trust. Especially that the matter concerns health care workers who work with particularly vulnerable people – emphasized Hoerzing.

Also in Upper Austria, an investigation was carried out in the case of a bus driver belonging to the Upper Austrian Transport Association (OOeVV). On Friday evening, a photo appeared on social media of a bus belonging to OOeVV with the words “Vaccination is murder”. “Initially it was assumed that it was a joke or a photomontage. However, thanks to the testimonies of witnesses, it was possible to establish the registration numbers of the vehicle and unambiguously identify the man” – describes “Kronen Zeitung”. The driver was questioned and released immediately.

– We accept and respect private opinions. However, when public transport is used to disseminate private opinions and views, of course we must act and take appropriate steps together with the transport company, said OOeVV director Herbert Kubasta.
