Bahia Social Vip – The best of Bahia in the spotlight New movie in the “Hunger Games” saga gets official teaser

“Top Gun” was one of the biggest hits of ’86. There’s no one over 30 who hasn’t sung “Take My Breath Away”, which won the Oscar for Best Original Song for the film. Now, 36 years later – and many films that imitated the genre, but did not even come close to the quality of the original – “Top Gun: Maverick” arrives in theaters, once again starring the tireless Tom Cruise.

In the current story, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Cruise) is called upon to lead a team made up of 12 Top Gun pilots – the best of the best. The mission – suicidal – is to destroy a bunker with uranium, thus preventing a nuclear war. Among the pilots is Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller) son of “Goose”, Maverick’s wingman in the first film, who died in combat. With a problem between the two, coexistence will not be easy.

The new plot is basically a remake of the previous one. There are pilots who are antagonists (Rooster and Hangman), there is the pilot who is smart, but clumsy (Bob) and so on. Of course, there’s a welcome change in the pilots, who are now much more multi-ethnic, and even have a woman. There’s also Maverick’s love interest Penny (the always great Jennifer Connelly).

The warm colors, the classic piano scene, the scene of the shirtless piebald pilots playing football… it’s all there, reminiscent of the original. Which is far from a defect, even more so because we have two generations that haven’t seen the first feature.

And, in a world where CGI is increasingly present in all productions, it’s wonderful to see a film with practical effects. In this regard, “Top Gun: Maverick” is unbeatable. It’s one of the best action movies of the last few years, thanks a lot to the fighters flying for real, without being on a green background (and the actors had to overcome their fears to face the challenge). Get ready to run out of breath and squeeze in your chair as you watch the maneuvers, the pilots doing their best and even passing out in the fighter cockpit.

Tom Cruise, as usual, is doing great. Seeing him riding motorcycles – which he learned to make the first film – and piloting fighter jets without stuntmen increases the adrenaline even more. The scene in which he and Val Kilmer (“Iceman” in the first film) meet is very touching, especially since the veteran actor appears weakened by throat cancer. His voice in the film was made by artificial intelligence.

The only downside of the feature is that the rivalry between Rooster and Hangman is not very highlighted, as was the one between Maverick and Iceman in the first feature. Still, “Top Gun: Maverick” is a must-see and has everything to become a new classic.
