Who knows how many of those “caps” we chewed as kids during homework. Surely without wondering why there is a small hole in the top of the ballpoint pens. But a YouTuber thought about unraveling the “mystery”. His name? named Zach D.

BIRO PEN, THE “MYSTERY” OF THE HOLE REVEALED

With over two million followers, Zach became well known and viral with a video clip explaining why the pen manufacturers have provided a hole in the top of the lid. In the clip he explains that many people think that hole has to do with theink or something similar. But is not so.

That hole applied to the “cap” exists to allow airflow in case the pen lid is swallowed and gets trapped in the throat.

In the video that went viral, he explained: “Manufacturing companies are forced to add these little holes.” The video also shows a diagram of the skeleton x-ray and how crucial this small hole is to allow for airflow if the lid is swallowed.
