When many people think of Barbiethere is one very important part of the Barbie doll universe that comes to mind: the Dreamhouse.
The Barbie Dreamhouse has been the object of many little girls’ dreams for decades and now that the iconic doll is about to receive a live-action film, starring Margot Robbie, fans have been wondering if any iteration of the Dreamhouse will appear in the film, and it looks like we could see more than one. Speaking with Carey Mulligan for Variety, Robbie teased the appearance of “some dream homes” in the film.
“Dream houses? You will see some dream homes,” Robbie said. “And it will be everything you’ve ever dreamed of.”
The Dream House of Barbie originally debuted in 1962, just three years after the doll’s debut. The first dream house was a simple ranch-style folding house, evocative of a popular home design of the time with a mid-century style, and it was made of cardboard. Over the next few years the house has undergone many updates including Barbie’s mid 70’s townhouse with a working elevator, mid 80’s cottage, sprawling 90’s villa style homes and even a multi-family version, complete with garage, in more recent years.
As for which versions of the houses we’ll see in Barbie, it’s unknown, but the images we’ve seen so far from the film include a wide range of eras in terms of Barbie’s style, so it’s possible that one or even all of these houses of Dreams are incorporated into the film.
