Streisand, who starred in “A Star is Born” in 1976, gave the production her blessing earlier. Now, however, she says that the movie was a bad idea, and instead of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, she would have liked to see … Beyoncé and Will Smith.
In a recent appearance on the talk show “The Sunday Project”, Barbra Streisand criticized the latest remake of 2018 “Star is Born”.
It was a bad idea to approach this movie.
the 79-year-old icon said in Sunday’s appearance on the Australian program.
Streisand also commented on the actors who appeared in the latest version of “A Star is Born”:
At first, when I heard that another remake of the movie was going to be made by Will Smith and Beyoncé, and then I thought it would be something new. It was a great idea.
Barbra Streisand starred opposite Kris Kristofferson in the 1976 film adaptation directed by Frank Pierson:
So I was surprised to see how much the new version is similar to the version I made in 1976.
She added that she “thought the movie was a bad idea” but “can’t argue with success” after the Cooper-directed movie awarded Lady Gaga the first prize for Best Song, the movie’s flagship tune, “Shallow.” Nevertheless, Streisand added:
However, I do not care so much about success as about the originality of the story.
However, despite Streisand’s comments about the story shown, the singer and actress praised Gaga and Cooper for their performance in the film:
I think Bradley Cooper did a wonderful job with Lady Gaga
