Karim Benzema is Real Madrid’s main protagonist this season. In the Champions League, the French striker reached 10 goals scored in the knockout stage and equaled the feat of Cristiano Ronaldo in 2016/2017. The number nine can still reach the Portuguese as the top scorer in a single edition of the Champions League.
After returning from injury and going blank in the first leg against Paris Saint-Germain, Benzema guaranteed the classification of the merengue team. The athlete reversed a score from 2 to 0 in favor of the French club scoring three goals in less than 20 minutes.
In the first leg against Chelsea, Benzema scored the three goals in the Spaniards’ victory over the Blues in a 3-1 triumph in England. In Spain, after Real Madrid lost 3-0, Rodrygo scored the goal that took the game to extra time and the Champions League top scorer scored the qualifying goal.
Against Manchester City, the number nine scored the goals of the Citizens on two occasions in the 4-3 defeat at the Etihad Stadium. At the Santiago Bernabéu, the striker scored the first goal from the penalty spot in extra time after winning 2-1 in regulation time.

In the 2016/2017 season, Cristiano Ronaldo scored 17 goals and is the top scorer in a single edition of the Champions League. In the current season, Benzema has 15 goals and can equal the mark of the greatest scorer in the history of Real Madrid.
In addition to this feat, the French striker can equal a category that only Puskás has reached until today. In 1959/2960, the Hungarian striker scored 12 goals in a knockout and Champions League, but the merengue ace needs two goals against Liverpool to equal one of the greatest scorers in football history.
