Karim Benzema became only the fifth player in Real Madrid history to score 40 goals in the same season
Karim Benzema put one more exclamation point on the historic season that has been doing for the Real Madrid. This Tuesday (26), facing the Manchester City by the semifinals of Champions Leaguethe Frenchman reached the mark of 40 goals for the club in 2021/22 in all competitions.
Against City, Benzema scored his 40th goal in the first half and his 41st goal in the final stage, lavishing a cool penalty kick with a cavadinha. And the balls in the net put him in a very special group in the history of Real Madrid.
Benzema became just the fourth player in the history of the Spanish club to score 40 goals in the same season summing up all competitions. He joins none other than Alfredo Di Stefano, Ferenc Puskas, Hugo Sanchez and Cristiano Ronaldosome of the biggest names in the merengue team.
At the moment, the French forward is tied with Di Stéfano and Sánchez, who have reached the mark once in their career. Puskás has surpassed 40 goals in three seasons, while Cristiano Ronaldo has had at least 40 goals in the net in an incredible eight straight seasons at Real.
