Bernardo Silva, long dogged by departure rumours, has finally decided to extend his contract with Manchester City until 2026. In comments reported by Sport, the attacking midfielder’s father confirmed the interest of Barca and PSG for his son.
After seven seasons at Manchester City, Bernardo Silva has seen a number of teams wooing him. PSG in particular, as RMC Sport revealed a few weeks ago, have made the attacking midfielder one of their transfer window targets. But Citizens coach Pep Guardiola has always intended to retain an element he has relied heavily on for many years.
In comments reported by gameBernardo Silva’s father confirmed this desire of the Parisians to recruit his son: “There was a very strong approach, with an offer and a desire from PSG.” The French champions also faced competition from Barca: “There has been constant interest from FC Barcelona, who want to keep Bernardo in their team year after year.”
A return to Benfica, “a strong possibility”
Saudi Arabia, the main actor of this summer’s transfer window, also tried to acquire this big blow, but the prospect apparently did not entice the former Monegasque: “There was an offer and intention to buy from Saudi Arabia which started in June. happened.” CBS Sports at the time reported a €70 million offer from Al-Hilal, who finally secured a contract with Neymar a few days earlier.
Even though Silva hasn’t actually signed a long-term extension with the Citizens, it is not certain that this could benefit PSG and Barca in the future. The international’s father also said that a return to Benfica is in his plans: “It is clear that Bernardo is a fan of Benfica and he wants to come back to Benfica. Will it happen in three years? I don’t think for a year. A decision on the extension will be made. With City, the 32-year-old has been linked with a return to Benfica. It could be a possibility and it is a strong possibility, but I would not say it is a preparation for that.”
