Establishment of the first fully functional nuclear power plant with the Natrium reactor in Kemmamer has been agreed with the community. TerraPower also took into account the available infrastructure in the city. Two blocks of the coal-fired power plant operating there will be shut down in 2025. The construction of the entire structure is to require approx. 2,000 people. employees in the next 7 years, and after that time 250 people will find permanent employment.

The investment is to cost a total of $ 4 billion, of which $ 1.5 billion. is expected to come from funding under the Investment Program for Advanced Reactor Demonstration Projects (ARDP). The Department of Energy is to add another $ 500 million, and the remaining $ 2 billion will be provided by TerraPower alone. The completed nuclear power plant will be equipped with reactor generating the power of 345 MW. It is to be combined with an energy storage system, also designed to store electricity from renewable energy sources. Thanks to this, the maximum capacity of the power plant is to be 500 MW, which allows it to power up to 400,000. households.
The Natrium reactor itself is jointly manufactured by TerraPower and General Electric-Hitachi. Apply in it uranium enriched up to 20 percentwhich is a much higher value than in other constructions. The reactor is cooled with sodium and said energy storage system is made of molten salt. The specificity of the entire platform makes it possible to significantly reduce the amount of nuclear waste, which is why it is supported by a large group of nuclear power supporters.
