French newspaper Le Parisien criticized Blackpink’s concert in Paris attracting the attention of mainstream Korean media.
Girl group Blackpink performed a concert titled “Blackpink World Tour (Born Pink) Encore in Paris” at the Stade de France on July 15 as part of their world tour.
This was the first K-pop girl group concert at a major European stadium. The young singers attracted around 55,000 spectators.
While the fans had some unforgettable moments with the girls, French outlet Le Parisien heavily criticized the girls’ performances.
Le Parisien published on September 2 a review of all the concerts organized in Paris at the Stade de France and Paris La Défense Arena during the summer. The newspaper said the list had been compiled objectively and pointed out that some would be happy, jealous or unhappy.
The French outlet wrote that just because there are people filling the Stade de France doesn’t mean the performance was up to snuff, adding that was the conclusion they came to after leaving.
Le Parisien added that it was the worst performance of the summer among recent performances by famous singers from around the world in France. The outlet explained that the video footage that captured the members at the time exposed their messy performance and the camera was unstable.
The outlet added that the choreography was too classic and the girls missed each other due to the lack of communication. Their rhythm was broken because there were too many intermissions.
Le Parisien concluded his review by calling the situation ridiculous when one member (Jennie) left the stage for no reason at the end leaving the other three on stage. The newspaper wrote that it was not a performance worthy of a popular South Korean group.
Le Parisien called The Weeknd’s concert “the best performance of this summer”, “with the most perfect and daring performance in all aspects, including the direction and the singing”.
Le Parisien’s article caught the attention of the media and fans. The article was shared by mainstream Korean media, on social media fans of the girl group expressed their dissatisfaction with the French newspaper.
