The name of Kourtney Kardashian joined the most talked about topics on the web. The reason? The influencer, married to the musician Travis Barkerrevealed during an episode of the reality The Kardashians unusual advice from your doctor. According to the 43-year-old actress, model and socialite, the professional instructed her to ingest her husband’s sperm to help her get pregnant.
The businesswoman has been undergoing treatment for in vitro fertilization. “Well he told me the thing that would help [minha tireoide] was to drink the semen [de Barker] 4 times a week,” said Kourtney.
But does the orientation really make sense? Or is it just a marketing ploy to get attention? GLAMOR spoke with gynecologist Dr. Luiz Gustavo Oliveira Brito to better understand the case.
“Sperm is a gelatinous, white-looking substance that contains a number of components. It has some substances with antioxidant factors, but the main vitamin is B12, in addition we have zinc, vitamin C, vitamin E and other micronutrients. Semen also has substances that can be bactericidal. What happens is that there are studies that seek to assess whether the use of these antioxidants could improve fertility rates and reduce some diseases”, explains the gynecological surgeon at the Women’s Medicine Clinic.

However, Dr. Luiz Gustavo reinforces that there are still not many supporting studies. “There is nothing in the scientific medical literature demonstrating that oral semen ingestion can significantly strengthen a pregnant woman’s immune system. There’s the issue that if you ingest semen, you’re ingesting oxidizing substances, a small percentage, and that could improve your body’s oxidative stress. There are studies showing that exposure to semen during oral sex could reduce the risk of preeclampsia or recurrent miscarriage, but we don’t have important robust data,” she says.
The gynecologist pointed out that it is possible to ‘improve’ a man’s sperm, but still, there is no evidence that it helps in pregnancy. “If a man ingests Vitamin C, E and coenzyme Q10 as a supplement, it helps to improve the semen parameters of that person’s sperm because it will be absorbed by the body and, consequently, be produced in the sperm. However, there is no recommendation that the problem of investigating the couple’s infertility may improve if semen is ingested.”
