A Canadair crashed after crashing on the slopes of Etna, in the Linguaglossa area, where it was in action to help put out a vast fire. There is currently no news on the crew and the causes of the accident. On the spot there are rescuers, carabinieri and 118 personnel.
The Canadair of the Fire Brigade had recently refueled at sea, in the area in front of Giarre, and then resumed the fire extinguishing operation that developed in the area of Mount Calcinera. The crash, according to some witnesses present on the spot, was followed by an explosion, which caused a large fire. The firefighters are already present on site, including a team of experts Speleo alpino alpino fluviale (Saf). Also present was a helicopter of the forestry corps of the Sicilian Region.
The canadair would have crashed due to “the hull hitting the mountain coast”. It is the first reconstruction of the accident in Sicily by the general command of the Fire Brigade according to which “at the moment the search teams are working in the area”. The crashed aircraft is the Canadair 28.
