A new video of the awaited TV series Candy aired on ABC’s recently controversial Oscar Night Sunday night. The miniseries will see Jessica Biel star in the show based on the murder of Betty Gore by her neighbor Candy Montgomery, which took place on June 13, 1980.
The clip, lasting 30 seconds, is a very short one trip inside the mind of Candy Montgomery, under pressure from expectations and conformity. The short teaser is full of moments of great tension, which contribute to creating an anxious atmosphere around the story.
The video ends with a voiceover which states:“Candy, you can’t always be perfect”alluding to the fact that the protagonist often feels oppressed by expectations and requests for perfection.
Jessica Biel replaced Elisabeth Moss, originally cast as Candy. Here is the official synopsis of the show:“Candy Montgomery is an 80s housewife and mother who leads a seemingly perfect life: a good husband, two kids, a nice house, even carefully planned moments of transgression. But when the pressure to conform grows inside her , his actions are a cry for a little freedom. With deadly results”.
Candy isn’t the only adaptation of Betty Gore’s murder. A miniseries starring Elizabeth Olsen, Love & Death, will debut on HBO Max in 2022, written by David E. Kelley and co-produced with Nicole Kidman.
Melanie Linskey as Betty and Pablo Schreiber as Alan Gore also star with Jessica Biel. The series will premiere in the US in early May.
