“Candy” Episode 5 on Hulu recap: Justin Timberlake walks through the fight
Episode 5 opens with Candy approaching Betty Gore’s door. However, Deputy Denny Reese opens the doors to Justin Timberlake as Sheriff Steve Defibaugh. The two men retrace the possible scenario of how the alleged murder took place. They believe Ms. Gore fought over the cuts on her arms.
The cause of the bruises on Candy’s legs is the ax coming down and hitting her legs. She even hit herself in her toe once. When she was done, she took a shower and tried to clean up her mess with a towel. Her footprints were left in her blood. Then she Candy walked out the door and let the baby cry for 13 hours. The men believe a guilty verdict is necessary because they have Candy’s fingerprints, hair, and blood at the scene. The officers hope that you will invoke self-defense because you have failed to win.

“Candy” Episode 5 on Hulu’s Recap: The Trial
In Candy Episode 5 Outside the classroom, the townspeople discuss why Candy killed Betty. Sherry (Jessie Mueller) is the only person who stands up for Candy. As the defendant enters the courtroom in a blue suit, people yell “killer”. The judge repeatedly grants Candy’s lawyer, Don Crowder, jail time and fines for breaking court rules.
When Allan Gore (Pablo Schreiber) takes the floor, he appears to be a witness to Candy’s character instead of defending his dead wife. He admits that he is still Candy’s friend. Betty Gore’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Pomeroy (Rick Espaillat and Annie Cook), are shocked. It is also evident that Allan moved on when he kissed Elaine (Jamie Anne Allman),
When Don Crowder interrogates Deputy Defibaugh, they conclude that there is no physical evidence to indicate that Betty Gore did not first pick up the ax.
Candy Montgomery pleads not guilty and the doctors use hypnosis to find out what happened.
Later that night inside Candy Episode 5, Candy and Pat Montgomery (Timothy Simons) have Sherry, her husband and attorney Don Crowder at their home. The lawyer explains that Candy killed Betty, but it was a dissociative reaction. She was “overly civilized” and controlled her whole life. The lawyer wants you to stand on the stand after the doctors explain what happened. Candy is hesitant, but the lawyer insists she take a stand.

“Candy” Episode 5 on Hulu’s recap: Candy Montgomery takes the floor
When Candy takes a stand in Episode 5, she initially hesitates, but the story begins. When Candy got home, the two women went out to see her new puppy, Cheeto. They came back the same door and Candy told Betty about her new business, “Cover Girls,” with Sherri. So she handed Betty a card and offered to brighten up her house.
Then, Betty asked in no uncertain terms if Candy was having an affair with Allan. She admitted they were having an affair, but it’s been a long time. Then she Betty went into the closet and when she came back she had an ax. Betty brought the ax and threatened Candy never to see Allan again.

Later, Candy went to get her swimsuit from the washing machine, while Betty got a towel and mints for Christina’s swimming lesson later that day. However, Betty looked hurt, so Candy apologized and patted her arm, then Betty pushed her into the closet. They were both standing close with their hands on their axes. Then Betty said, “I have to kill you.”
Candy testified that she hit Betty once and then ran to the door, but Betty didn’t let her out. Candy testified that she tried to go out twice and didn’t want Allan. They both heard the baby cry, so Betty “shut her up”. It was then that she Candy didn’t think about what she was doing and hit her repeatedly. However, she Candy felt like she wasn’t even there. She pulled back and watched as she did it.
Betty Gore never got a chance to tell her side of the story
In Candy Episode 5 on Hulu, the ax scene becomes difficult to watch as blood splashes everywhere. Betty is there in the courtroom the whole time Candy tells the story.
Then Betty says, “This is your story.” As much as viewers want Betty to elaborate, the producers point out that only Candy had a chance to tell her story.
So the state asks if Candy had any other relationships before Allan or after Allan. She admits she was with another man in the late 1970s. However, she won’t give the man’s name. The judge continually overrides Don Crowder’s objections. Then Candy tells Pat that she was with another man after Allan. He is so upset, but viewers discover that he stayed with Candy for several more years after the trial.
“We, the jury, believe that the defendant is not guilty,” reads the judge disapprovingly.
Betty yells, “She left my baby.” Then the story ends. Viewers find out through a textual update
Allan married Elaine shortly after the trial. Six years after the trial, Don Crowder ran for governor of Texas. Additionally, Candy moved, changed her name, and started a new life as a mental health consultant.
All five episodes of Candy are now available to stream on Hulu.
