The Hollywood diva will award an emerging actor and actress at the film festival to be held between 17 and 28 May.
Julia Roberts has been named godmother of the Trophée Chopard, for the 2022 edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
As part of the role, the Oscar-winning actress is set to present the accolade to two emerging movie stars at a gala dinner scheduled for May 19 in Cannes.
“For a movie fan like me, Julia Roberts is a legend. His energy and talent have left an indelible imprint on subsequent generations and it is an honor that he accepted to be able to symbolically transfer the experience of his very rich career to the two winners of the Trophée Chopard 2022 “, said Caroline Scheufele, co – president and artistic director of the luxury jewelry brand Chopard, as reported by Variety.
Julia follows in the footsteps of Jessica Chastain, who introduced Jessie Buckley and Kingsley Ben-Adi in last year’s edition.
Previously the role was held by Charlize Theron, Cate Blanchett, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law and Robert De Niro. Among the winners of the past years Florence Pugh, Shailene Woodley, James McAvoy, Marion Cotillard and John Boyega.
The Cannes Film Festival will be held between 17 and 28 May. The event will feature, among other films, “Elvis”, “Crimes of the Future” and “Armageddon Time”.
