Cannes. Until the 28th the Festival

(Maria de falco Marotta- Elisa-Antonio) The curtain has recently risen on the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, an unmissable event for international cinema which, as usual, rewards the best films made by directors and actors from all over of the world. Italy is often among the super favorites for the coveted Palme d’Or and this year it is no less: artists and excellences of the Bel Paese compete for the prize and also stand out among the members of the prestigious jury of the Festival.

Cannes Film Festival 2022, Italian stars and films in competition
Being admitted to the competition at the Cannes Film Festival requires a tortuous and by no means predictable path: the 47 films competing in this year’s edition are returning from a selection that began with more than two thousand titles. Which makes the participation of the stars and artists of our house a source of great pride.
The Festival directed by Thierry Frémaux welcomes films that range from quite varied genres, from action movies to drama films. And it is precisely in the latter that Nostalgia is inscribed, the latest film made by director Mario Martone starring the actor Pierfrancesco Favino. Nostalgia is the adaptation of the novel by Ermanno Rea and tells the story of Felice (played by Favino) who, after forty years of absence, returns to the Rione Sanità of Naples, where he was born and where a past is enclosed that violently returns to afloat.
Martone’s film is one of the most popular among those competing, on the other hand there is another Italian name ready to conquer the Croisette: Valeria Bruni Tedeschi is competing with the film (in French) Les Amandiers, where she plays among the others the actor Louis Garrel, former partner of the director and now married to Laetitia Casta.
But the Italian excellence at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival does not end there. Among the actors stand out Luca Marinelli and Alessandro Borghi, whom we recently enjoyed respectively in the film Diabolik and in the TV series Diavoli. This time the two beloved performers are the protagonists of The Eight Mountains, a film based on the book of the same name by Paolo Cognetti and directed by Charlotte Vandermeersch and Felix Van Groeningen.
The film External Night, written and directed by Marco Bellocchio and set in 1978, when the war between the State and the Red Brigades was raging in Italy, is not competing but will have a dedicated space. In this scenario, Aldo Moro played an essential role, protagonist of the film played by Fabrizio Gifuni, kidnapped and held prisoner for more than fifty days and, finally, killed by his torturers.

Cannes Film Festival 2022, Jasmine Trinca on the jury
As usual, the jury of the Cannes Film Festival welcomes big names in cinema from different countries of the world. This year the French actor Vincent Lindon will preside, flanked by the Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, by the American director Jeff Nichols, by the actresses Deepika Padukon (India) and Noomi Rapace (Sweden) and again by the French director Ladj Ly, by the actress and English director Rebecca Hall and Norwegian director Joachim Trier.
Representing Italy in the prestigious Cannes 2022 jury, on the other hand, is the splendid Jasmine Trinca, one of the most loved actresses by the public of the Bel Paese (and beyond). For her this edition of the Festival takes on an even more important value due to her official debut in the role of director: her first feature film Marcel! will be presented in the Seances speciales section.

Cannes 2022, the Festival program
The Cannes Film Festival 2022 opened its doors on Tuesday 17 May, and then continues with a rich program of screenings and events until 28 May. Many guests expected on the Croisette, in addition of course to the protagonists of the films in competition, including stars of the caliber of Anthony Hopkins, Anne Hathaway, Kristen Stewart, Marion Cotillard and Tom Cruise, the famous actor who is still loved for his skill, but deemed quite rude, for having “forgotten” to name his ex and beautiful wife Nicole Kidman to whom he was married 11 years and came to Venice to present Eyes Wide Shut, Stanley Kubrick’s controversial masterpiece. We then interviewed them both, who were very in love and beautiful: Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise. If we talk about cinema, other “tasks” should certainly not interfere, especially when a tribute to the career of an actor like Cruise is made. We all know their long love story, we know that they have been married for eleven years and that they were one of Hollywood’s golden couples, before their love and marriage fell apart. Their lives have been divided for more than twenty years now. What a pity that even cinema does not believe in eternal love!
