Carrie Hope Fletcher will star in Cinderella’s new Andrew Lloyd Webber and Emerald Fennell film when it opens this year in the West End.
Fletcher starred in the Cinderella series, starring new songs by Lloyd Webber and the book by author Killing Eve and star Call the Midwife.
Fletcher had previously performed at a theater workshop, and Lloyd Webber said he was “absolutely thrilled” to play the part at the Gillian Lynn Theater, which will begin its performances in August.
“She has totally wowed my fellow writers and creative team and was a big success at the sing through of the show late last year. I am hugely confident that she will make this new take on Cinderella very much her own, and I’m looking forward to working and recording with her as soon as possible,” said the composer.
Fletcher’s titles in the West End include Heathers, Mary Poppins, and Les Misérables, in which he currently plays in Fantine.
Cinderella is led by Lawrence Connor and choreographer Joanne Hunter, and David Zippel wrote the text for the musical, which is described as a complete overhaul of the story.
Cinderella begins presentations on August 28 evening in the press on September 23.
