During a recent interview granted to “Entertainment Weekly”, McG assured that he would be delighted to discuss with Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu around a third opus of “Charlie’s Angels”. The director believes that they may still have “a captivating story to tell”.
Charlie’s Angels 3 ? McG is in!
In 2000, spectators from all over the world have the chance – the privilege! – to discover McG’s delirious visual prowess with Charlie and his Charlie’s Angels, adaptation of the famous American series. Three years later, the filmmaker once again summons the excellent trio made up of Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu and manages the feat of signing an even crazier, even funnier and even more stupid second opus with Charlie’s Angels: Angels Go Wild.
The franchise was later treated to a 2019 reboot directed by Elizabeth Banks, which introduced a new team. Nevertheless, the commercial failure of Charlie’s Angels apparently buried the possibility of a sequel. In contrast, McG recently made it known thathe would love to direct a third installment with Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu, who supported him in his early days when he pitched his wacky ideas to Amy Pascal, then head of Columbia Pictures.
Asked by Entertainment Weekly about it, the director said:
It would require a long discussion with these three marvelous actresses whom I adore. I was very happy to see Elizabeth Banks take charge and do what she did. (…) I would be very happy to discuss it with Drew, Cameron and Lucy but at the same time, I was very happy to pass the torch. (…) But who knows? Maybe we have a compelling story left to tell if the opportunity arises. I love all three of them so much. (…) They watched over me when I started out as a filmmaker. I almost got fired from Charlie and his Charlie’s Angels many times and Drew stood up for me, and I will be forever indebted to him.
Drew Barrymore would love to find his accomplices
In 2022, Drew Barrymore assured on his talk show thatshe would sign without hesitation for a third opus with her friends Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu, even adding:
I’d be surprised if one of us didn’t want to. (…) I will always say ‘yes’.
Passing through the Tonight Show by Jimmy Fallon in March 2023, Lucy Liu declared for her part that it would be “really fun to do something again with” his accomplices, even if 23 years have passed since the first part and this new film would necessarily be “different”. As for Cameron Diaz, she recently came out of retirement for comedy Back in Action, which will be released soon on Netflix and in which she gives the reply to Jamie Foxx. All hopes are therefore permitted.
