Ciarne with COVID-19 in hospitals. “Mody father comes for the death certificate of his wife, with the baby in a sling”

Prof. Mirosław Czuczwar, Head of the Clinic of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy of the Independent Public Clinical Hospital No. 1 in Lublin, was the first to alert that hospitals were started by young mothers, pregnant and puerperal women in very severe COVID-19 conditions.

As prof. Czuczwar today admits patients to intensive care units who require not only respiratory therapy, but also therapy with extracorporeal circulation, i.e. ECMO. – Connecting to such equipment means that their chance of survival is very low – adds the anaesthesiologist. He emphasizes that such a severe course of the disease happens in patients who have not been vaccinated against the coronavirus.

The doctor points out that health service workers experience such tragedies very much. Especially when young people die.

At the moment, the number of pregnant women in hospitals is no greater than in previous coronavirus waves. However, as they indicate in an interview with Gazeta.pl. employees of Szpital Specjalistyczny im. Stefan Żeromski in Krakow, the peak of the fourth wave has not yet come. Pregnant people get sick more severely and more seriously

Recent UK research shows that pregnant women are five times more likely to get COVID-19 than other women. From the observations of Dr. Marzena Piasecka, a gynecologist, it appears that pregnant women develop the infection much more seriously.

– The first studies said that a pregnant patient undergoes COVID-19 just like women who are not pregnant. However, after the lapse of time, we see that pregnant women experience it much more seriously – says Dr. Piasecka in an interview with Gazeta.pl.

– Especially in the last trimesters of pregnancy, the course of COVID-19 is the most severe. In patients, respiratory capacity decreases naturally due to the advancement of pregnancy, and when we add the coronavirus to it, the situation worsens. Pregnant women also have reduced immunity, which can make this disease very difficult, adds the gynecologist.

Internet forums and social media are full of conflicting information about immunization of pregnant women. Many doctors still discourage pregnant women from receiving vaccinations.
