Italy today reaches the target of 90% of gas storage ahead of the end-autumn deadline. This was announced by the Ministry of Ecological Transition. “A goal made possible by the intense work carried out by the government in recent months, thanks also to Snam and the support of Gse and Arera” underlines the minister, Roberto Cingolani. “This result allows us to aim for an even more ambitious goal, which we will work on in the coming weeks, aimed at reaching 92-93% of storage filling, so as to guarantee greater flexibility in the event of peaks in winter consumption”.
Speaking of the Piombino regasification plant, Snam’s CEO, Stefano Venier, said: “We have the deadline of October 30 for the green light and I have no reason at this moment that it cannot be closed positively”. “Then – he added during the Italian Energy Summit organized by Il Sole 24 Ore – we will have six months of intense work for Piombino to make the regasifier available for next summer”.
Eni expects to be independent from Russian gas by the winter of 2024-2025, but to do so, more regasifiers will be needed, reiterated Eni’s CEO, Claudio Descalzi, at the Italian energy summit of Il Sole 24 ore. The objective of independence from Russian gas may be possible thanks to the use of supplies not only from Algeria and Northern Europe, added Descalzi, but also from Egypt, Nigeria, Congo, Mozambique, Qatar, Indonesia. “All these new chapters will bring a contribution that in the winter of 2024-2025 will lead us to be independent from Russia”, the manager specified.
