Conference: “Wood as a primary and secondary material”

site: Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna (Bologna).

Wednesday 11 May 2022, in conjunction with the days of Art City Bologna and Arte Fiera, the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna organizes, in collaboration with IGIIC (Italian Group of the International Institute for Conservation), the traditional Conference on the restoration of the Contemporary , now in its seventh edition. This year, the Study Day – which has already sold out – is dedicated to the recovery of wood as a primary and secondary material.

Wood is a material that has always been used by artists, including contemporary ones. The latter often use it without observing the rules established in the past, and often replace it with its derivatives, chosen both as a support for the works and as a material in itself. The conservation of works made with these materials, so differently characterized and sensitive to external agents, today poses new and complex problems to conservation workers.

This VII Day of Study on the Contemporary intends to address these issues both from a practical and a conceptual point of view, listening to the voice of museum and collection curators, restorers, technology experts related to the sector, and also giving space to the reflections of artists, designers, set designers.
