Contract for the project of a tunnel under Łódź for high-speed rail. The investment will shorten the travel time to Warsaw

The company Centralny Port Komunikacyjny has concluded a contract for the design of a four-kilometer high-speed tunnel west of the Łódź Fabryczna station. This is a key part of the railway route that will connect Warsaw with Łódź, Poznań and Wrocław. The contractor for the project will be a consortium with the participation of Metroprojekt and SUD Architekt Polska. The contract value is PLN 59.8 million net.

The planned construction of the tunnel is the first of the STH investments to enter the design phase and have an environmental decision. The commencement of underground works is planned for 2023 within the Łódź Fabryczna station. The contract signed on Tuesday provides for the execution of a construction design as well as the necessary studies and administrative decisions for the tunnel and railway line with accompanying infrastructure.

The tunnel will be used by long-distance trains, especially high-speed trains. It is an element of the new railway route from Warsaw through STH, Łódź and Sieradz, and further to Wrocław and Poznań. The planned tunnel will be over 4 km long.
