“Controlling Britney Spears” is a continuation of the well-received documentary, prepared by the editors of the “New York Times”. In the film, which reveals another traumatic detail of the singer’s tutelage since 2008.
Every conversation of the star was monitored
Among the people who took part in the film is Alex Vlasov, a former employee of Black Box Security, a security company that Jamie Spears hired shortly after his guardianship began. The man revealed that all of the singer’s telecommunications equipment was controlled by a team of curators. Listening devices were also installed in the bedroom so that the artist would not be able to make private conversations.
Some of the incoming calls were encrypted so that they would be immediately forwarded to Spears’ father or someone on the management team. When Vaslow began to question the surveillance, he was told that everything was set up for “Britney’s security” and the court approved it. Every conversation between the star and her lawyer at the time was monitored.
Vivian Thoreen, Jamie Spears’ lawyer, did not deny the specific allegations, but said his actions “were within the limits of the powers conferred on him by the court” and that everything was “with the consent of Britney herself”. In her opinion, it is the father who is responsible for his daughter’s return to the stage, repairing her career and improving her financial situation.
“Mr. Yemini and Black Box have always kept the boundaries of their professional and legal ethics. They are particularly proud of their work, which has kept Ms Britney Spears safe for many years,” the Black Box company statement said.
“I don’t have a phone number for her”
Among the people who took part in the documentary “Controlling Britney Spears” was Felicia Culotta, who was not only a longtime singer’s assistant, but also a friend. Although the woman was with Britney from the very beginning of her career and accompanied her until the last tour, today she does not even have the artist’s phone number.
“At the moment I cannot contact her. All the numbers I had written down were simply changed” – the woman reveals. Culotta also addressed a few words to the singer herself. “I would like you to smile. I wish you to remember all the fun moments we spent together. Remember that you are a really strong person and you have a really big heart” – she added on the air.
Britney Spears is fighting for freedom
Jamie Spears has been in charge of her daughter’s affairs since she suffered a mental breakdown in 2008 and was incapacitated by a court of law. In June, Britney testified in court that she had been a victim of many abuses by her father over the years, including she was intoxicated with psychotropic drugs, forced to use contraceptives and to work beyond strength.
During the testimony, Britney repeatedly demanded that her father be removed from the post of probation and even arrested him. Spears’ dismissal was also supported in court testimony by the mother of the star Lynne Spears and Jodi Montgomery, a court-appointed temporary guardian.
In early August, Britney Spears’s lawyer filed a motion to the court for the immediate removal of her father from guardianship over her daughter, which was motivated by the trauma and harm to the singer. The application was rejected by the court without giving any reason, but in mid-August the case took an unexpected turn. Jamie Spears, through his lawyer, filed a statement with the court in which declared his readiness to resign from the function of his daughter’s probation officer.
