Although they want to leave the Portuguese, the English club must face difficulties to find a possible destination for the player
Cristiano Ronaldo could leave Manchester United before the European transfer window closes. The team’s coach, Erik ten Hag, was alarmed by the team’s start to the season and, therefore, wants to make big signings before the end of the window, raising the prospect of selling the Portuguese.
United believe the 37-year-old will serve the remainder of his contract, despite his initial desire to join a Champions League club. The club, however, believe that this stance is softening after consecutive defeats in the Premier League.
In this way, the departure of the Portuguese ace can be authorized if another attacker is hired.
Matheus Cunha on Manchester United’s radar?
United spent the last week looking for strong reinforcements to reinforce the team this summer. As such, the name of Atletico Madrid striker Matheus Cunha appeared on the English team’s radar.
THE GOAL found, however, that, so far, Atlético de Madrid has not received any offer for the Brazilian player. In addition, the Spanish team considers the striker as a fundamental part of the present and future of the team.
While the Brazilian is seen as a potential target for United, it is unclear whether Ronaldo could be used as part of that deal. Matheus Cunha was signed by Atlético from Hertha Berlin for 31 million euros last year.
United have already lost Darwin Nunez and Benjamin Sesko this summer – and dropped out of Marko Arnautovic after a furious backlash from fans.
Where can Cristiano Ronaldo go?
Cristiano Ronaldo has not been part of the club’s pre-season for Thailand and Australia – citing family reasons. And his lack of fitness meant that he could only start the match on the bench in the opening game of the season – the 2-1 loss to Brighton.
There are concerns that if Ronaldo stays at Old Trafford it will have a negative impact on the club. The Portuguese is paid around €20m a year but has yet to find a club willing to sign him, while United are likely to want a fee for the deal.
Ten Hag was convinced he could get the best out of Ronaldo – if only for the final year of his contract. But uncertainty over the future of the former Real Madrid and Juventus player overshadowed the United manager’s first months in the job.
Clubs such as Chelsea were approached by his agent Jorge Mendes, but Thomas Tuchel personally made the decision not to sign him. This, in fact, will be United’s great challenge in the coming weeks.
