On the occasion of the release of the new film by David Cronenberg, “Crimes of the future”which will arrive in Italian cinemas on August 24; Lucky Red has decided to celebrate the Canadian body horror filmmaker by marathoning the 18 to 23 August on a journey between horror and science fiction.
These films will be screened in their original language with subtitles in the cinema Quattro Fontane in Rome, at the Anteo Palazzo del Cinema in Milan and at the Ambrosio in Turin.
The films chosen for the marathon will be “Rabid – Thirst for blood”, cult from 1976 in which a young girl transforms into an insatiable vampire after undergoing a skin graft; the restored version of “Crash”, centered on the theme of mutation starting from a novel by JG Ballard in which the survivors of a car accident develop a sadomasochistic drive; the body horror “Brood – The Evil Brood”, set in a clinic of horrors; “Scanners”, starring individuals with telepathic powers with a lethal outcome. And then again “Videodrome”undisputed cult in which a mass media hallucination becomes a metaphor for the television civilization of the 80s; “The fly” a sci-fi tinged film with the actor Jeff Goldblum; “Naked Lunch”refined paranoid delirium that pays homage to the homonymous novel by William S. Burroughs.
Two films with Viggo Mortensen (protagonist also in “Crimes of the Future” together with the actresses Léa Seydoux and Kristen Stewart): “A History of Violence”a noir-tinged thriller on the theme of identity, and “A Dangerous Method” which traces the turbulent relationship between the psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung (Michael Fassbender), his mentor Sigmund Freud ( Mortensen) and Sabina Spielrein (Keira Knightley).
The marathon ends on Tuesday 23 August with “Eastern Promises”a noir-tinged film set in the Russian underworld always starring Viggo Mortensen with Naomi Watts and Vincent Cassel, and “Maps to the Stars”, a harsh critique of the entertainment world and the film industry, played by Mia Wasikowska, John Cusack, Robert Pattinson and Julianne Moorewho for this role won the Palma as best actress at the 67th Cannes Film Festival.
At Cinema Four Fountains of Rome and in Milan in the exhibition space on the ground floor of Antaeus Palace of Cinema the exhibition will also be set up “The New Meat”, dedicated to the cinema of David Cronenberg. The exhibition brings together a total of 40 drawn works (illustrations, single-page comics) created by a wide selection of the most representative Italian artists and cartoonists as a tribute to the Canadian director and his films, which will be divided between the two rooms. The exhibition is an original artistic production, co-produced by COMICON and Marco Lucchetti Art Gallery in Lugano.
