Dakar: Przygoński is climbing up, great Wiśniewski and Giemza

On Wednesday, the players competing in Dakar continued their way west of Saudi Arabia, to Bisha. They had to cover 375 kilometers of a special stage. It is worth noting that it was the last such a long stage in this year’s Dakar Rally. Today, many crews focused primarily on getting to the finish line safely and not missing the chances of a good result two days before the end of the rally.

Orlen Team sums up

Kamil Wiśniewski has had a great day as he took 2nd place and was promoted to the same position in the general classification. Second only to French Alexandre Giroud. – Very fast, fun episode. Lots of simple, cool dunes. I drove the rocky part rather preventively, I kept this stage under control. The loss to the winner was not big. I am ready for the last two days, declared Wiśniewski, who is one step away from the historic Dakar success.

Maciej Giemza, who finished 7th in Bisza, certainly has reasons to be pleased. – A fantastic stage is behind me. This is my best result so far in Dakar. The route was very fast for refueling, then more technical. I was around fourth position for most of the stage. I cut my pace a bit after a slight rollover, but finished 7th and I am very happy. Tomorrow is the last long stage. I think the pace will be a little slower. I will focus on getting to the finish line safely – said Giemza, who is nineteenth in the general classification.

Konrad Dąbrowski drove very well, he took 23rd place and moved up to 28th place in the general classification.

Toby Price was the winner among the riders, and Adrien van Beveren, third at the finish, increased his lead in the general classification over Sam Sunderland.

On Wednesday, Kuba Przygoński and Timo Gottschalk smiles again. The ORLEN Team crew ranked 6th. – It was a very quick episode. We had a real slalom between trees and bushes, the whole car is scratched.
We started in the back so we had a lot of cars to pass. We rode from dust to dust, we overtook at least 10 competitors. We consider the episode successful. Tomorrow we will have a good starting position, so we are satisfied – said Przygoński, who after today’s stage advanced one position in the general classification and is fifth.

The Wednesday stage was won by Stephane Peterhansel ahead of Carlos Sainz and Orlando Terranova. Nasser Al-Attiyah is leading the entire rally, confidently heading for his third Dakar triumph. The second ORLEN Team crew was struggling with serious technical problems today. Martin Prokop and Viktor Chytka are still struggling to complete the stage.

Domżała on the podium

The second place at today’s stage was taken by Aron Domżała and Maciej Marton. In the general classification they moved up to 12th place.

Cobant Energylandia Rally Team crews successfully implemented their plan for this day. Michał Goczał and Szymon Gospodarczyk reached the finish line in fourth place and maintained their third position in the general classification. Marek Goczał and Łukasz Łaskawiec took the seventh place today. The losses of both Polish teams to today’s winners were small.

– We did our best today. Up to a point we were driving very well, but then unfortunately we got to one of the truck crews. She was driving very fast, the route was quite tight, it was impossible to overtake her. Unfortunately, we were forced to follow it in the dust for some 80 kilometers – said Marek Goczał at the finish line.

– At one point, two or three Can-Amy’s reached us and we rode together in the dust to the very end. We did our best, but unfortunately nothing more could be squeezed out of this stage – that’s the Dakar. Tomorrow we are fighting on – summed up the older brother Goczała.

– Quick episode, there was nothing else we could do. We set up the car badly before the start, we had too much pressure in the tires because we expected more rocks on the route. At the 60th kilometer, Luppi caught up with us without any problems. Then we drove a long time in Jones’ dust. However, we happily reached the finish line without losing a very good 3rd place overall! – Michał Goczał.

– It was another very difficult stage. The pressure in our tires did not allow us to accelerate much today, but on the other hand we were much safer in all sections with stones. It’s a pity, we drove many kilometers in the dust again. Anyway, it was a great stage for us, we are satisfied – emphasized Michał Goczała’s pilot, Szymon Gospodarczyk.

The Petronas Team de Rooy Iveco team with Darek Rodewald advanced to 5th place among trucks. Fesh Fesh Team with Bartłomiej Boba is in 34th position.

Tomorrow, the penultimate stage of the Dakar 2022 Rally will take place. The competitors will face the loop around Bisha. The special stage will be 346 kilometers long. According to the organizer, half of the episode will run over the dunes, and the entire episode will be very technical.
