LONDON (Reuters) – Rapper Dave, Ed Sheeran and Shakira were among the winners of the Ivors award in London on Thursday at an annual ceremony honoring music and soundtrack composers.
Dave beat out the likes of Adele, Sheeran and Raye, as well as Coldplay, to be crowned Songwriter of the Year, and the Ivor Novello award for best album went to the critically acclaimed “Pink Moise” by Laura Mvula.
“I am genuinely happy to be here among people I respect,” Mvula told Reuters on the red carpet before the ceremony. “These are the people who don’t get enough credits.”
Shakira was recognized with the special international award at the event organized by the UK-based Ivors Academy.
“There’s so much talent out there and I’m glad there are now so many platforms that new songwriters and new creators are taking advantage of,” he said.
Sheeran, who last month won a copyright case for his 2017 mega-hit “Shape Of You” in London’s High Court, won the most performed work category for his song “Bad Habits.”
