De Bruyne at risk of three to four months out
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has announced that the Belgian player could undergo thigh surgery. This would mean that he would be out of action till early 2024.

Manchester City midfielder and captain Kevin De Bruyne could be ruled out of the competition for “three to four months” if he has to undergo surgery due to a recurrence of a thigh injury, with a decision yet to be made is, coach Pep Guardiola announced on Tuesday.
“It is a serious injury,” the Spanish technician told a press conference on the eve of the European Super Cup disputed by the current European champions against Sevilla FC in Athens at 9 pm on Wednesday. “We have to decide whether there will be an operation or not,” he said.

Kevin De Bruyne was sent off in the 23rd minute of Friday’s game against Burnley.

The 32-year-old was forced off midway through the first period on Friday for the Championship relegation match against Burnley (3-0) with a right thigh injury. Two months after a similar injury in the Champions League final against Inter Milan, his coach spoke of a second injury.
The creative midfielder’s absence in the future is a blow for Manchester City, who lost Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez from their attacking forces in the summer.
“We have to look ahead. Kevin’s quality is irreplaceable but we have players with varied talents.

“Kevin has special qualities. Losing him for a long time is really difficult for us,” commented Guardiola, who nevertheless has other options with Phil Foden and Julian Alvarez.
