Hideo Kojima said he had not yet fully understood Death Stranding, his latest creation coming in November on PS4.
Hideo Kojima said he had not yet understood Death Stranding, his new game to be released on November 8, 2019, on PS4.
Speaking with the Financial Times, Hideo Kojima admitted that not even he was able to fully understand his latest work: ” Death Stranding … even now, I can’t understand it. His vision of the world, the gameplay … it’s all-new. My mission is to create a genre that doesn’t exist yet and that takes everyone by surprise. Obviously it’s a risk … “
Kojima also took the opportunity to express his vision of the video game as a means of expression. According to him, making video games is craftwork, much more than making movies: “There are stories told by the cinema that my generation can find surprising, but we’re the generation of gamers can’t find anything in particular. If you take a banana and you call it ‘apple’, you made art. But in video games, it doesn’t work like that. We do things that are interactive. Banana must be edible after being peeled. Cars must be drivable. To make games interactive and fun there must be a reality where many people work there. This is what we are: a kind of service industry with artistic aspirations. “
