Let us remind you that the premiere of “Black Widow” took place on July 3, in which Scarlett Johansson played the main role. The actress filed a lawsuit against Disney after the film was released using a hybrid method, which would breach the terms of her salary contract.
Scarlett Johansson’s salary resulted from the share in the profits of theatrical distribution, and thus the simultaneous premiere on the Disney + streaming platform, significantly reduced revenues in traditional distribution. The actress was to lose nearly $ 50 million.
Everything indicates that the high-profile court hearing is over, as evidenced by the official Scarlett Johansson entry. –I am delighted to see our disagreements with Disney resolved. I am very proud of the work we have done together over the years. It was great to work with the creative team. I look forward to continuing our collaboration in the coming years – translates the actress.
A similar statement was made by Alan Bergman, president of Disney Studios: I am very pleased to have reached a common position on the Black Widow with Scarlett Johansson. We appreciate her contribution to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and look forward to working with us on many of the upcoming projects, including Disney’s “Tower of Terror” – we read in the statement.
Record revenues from the movie “Black Widow”
The movie “Black Widow” has brought Disney close to $ 379 million in profits since its premiere on July 9, 2021. According to the studio’s estimates, the film earned $ 60 million via the Disney + platform in the Premier Access service.
Until recently, it seemed that the cooperation between the famous actress and Disney would end in the light of the scandal. This could be indicated by the reactions of the production plant after receiving the lawsuit:
There is no basis for this action. The lawsuit is sad and disturbing over the soulless disregard for the frightening and long-lasting global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic – we read in the statement.
The world was full of comments supporting the actress and accusing the company of reversing the narrative and throwing responsibility while breaching the terms of the contract. In addition, there were rumors that Emily Blunt and Emma Stone would like to file similar lawsuits, who also starred in films distributed by Disney using the hybrid method (“Expeditions to the Jungle”, “Cruella”).
The lawsuit by Johansson received wide coverage in Hollywood, and the actress gained the support of such film industry personalities as Elizabeth Olsen, Jason Blum and Jamie Lee Curtis.
According to information obtained by deadline.com, Scarlett Johansson was to receive compensation from Disney in excess of $ 40 million.
Disney + continues to grow
