Drake has, once again, proven his authority in the rap game by dominating the rap categories of the 2023 Billboard Music Awards. The 37-year-old Canadian artist was nominated 14 times during the ceremony and walked away with five awards , sweeping the rap categories!
Drake won the Top Rap Artist categoryto the detriment of his regular collaborators, 21 Savage and Lil Baby, as well as Travis Scott and Metro Boomin. He also won the title of Top Male Rap Artist. ahead of 21 Savage and Travis Scott. Following her record-breaking “It’s All a Blur” tour, Drizzy also won Best Rap Touring Artist in front of 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa. Drake also walked away with the Top Rap Album for his collaborative project “Her Loss” with 21 Savage. Other nominees were Future’s “I Never Liked You,” Lil Baby’s “It’s Only Me,” Metro Boomin’s “Heroes & Villains” and Travis Scott’s “Utopia.” The rapper’s last victory of the evening came with the Top Rap Song, again for a collaboration with 21 Savage on “Rich Flex”. The song beat out Coi Leray’s “Players,” Gunna’s “FukUMean,” Lil Durk and J. Cole’s “All My Life” and Toosii’s “Favorite Song.” The OVO Sound boss, however, missed out on the first two awards of the evening, losing Top Artist to Taylor Swift and Top Male Artist to controversial country music star Morgan Wallen.
Despite not winning the biggest awards, Drake is now tied with Taylor Swift for the most Billboard Music Awards wins in the ceremony’s history with 39 trophies.
It was also a great night for Nicki Minaj who won the award for best female rap artist for the first time in her career.
