Drew Barrymore, end of abstinence and return to love

Six years after finalizing divorce from Will Kopelman, Drew Barrymore claims to be officially back on the market.

In the past, the host of the talk show explained that she took the divorce “very badly” and did not feel ready to open up to love again. But in Thursday’s episode of Drew Barrymore Show during a conversation with Whoopi Goldberg, Barrymore revealed that she’s dipping back into the dating pond after realizing she’s gotten a little too comfortable being alone: ”Last time you were here, we were both single. You didn’t go out with anyone. Are you dating anyone now?” she asked the actress before confessing that she had started dating again. She added: “Because it had been so many years, I started to worry, like I was too good at being alone.”

The co-host of View He said he’s not looking for a serious relationship just yet, but he did offer Drew Barrymore some sage advice on his romantic ventures. «Perhaps it is better a “hit and run”, for now, until you’re like, ‘Now I really want someone to be a part of this,'” Goldberg suggested. “Right now, that might not be what you’re looking for, and it’s probably why you’re doing well.”

Drew Barrymore and her ex-husband, with whom she shares two daughters – Olives 10 years old and Frankie of 8 — decided to part ways in 2016. Since then, the star has stated Never been kissed in an October blog post, she “wasn’t able to have an intimate relationship,” later explaining, “I’ve had the honor and pleasure of working on myself and learning about parenting, again something that wasn’t exactly clear to me growing up and I’ve had a lot of learning curves thrown at me. I was intimidated. I was triumphant. I was asked to be educated in every possible way.” And again: «I am in a completely different state in my life and maybe in the near future I will have a relationship … but it is simply not my priority. I’m not someone who needs sex and has to go out there and engage with people on that level. I am someone who is deeply committed to promoting the way young girls, my daughters and myself as a woman, should function in this world!”

The former actress was also married to the producer Jeremy Thomas from 1994 to 1995 and with the comedian Tom Green from 2001 to 2002. In September 2020, Drew Barrymore told her guest Jane Fonda that she tried a couple of dating apps after her divorce but “avoided men” for the past five years. But Fonda countered that just because the talk show host is avoiding men doesn’t mean she can’t “slide a relationship or two into it.”
