The acclaimed actress and talk show host Drew Barrymore has stated that, if asked, she would be happy to return to the Charlie’s Angels film series.
Barrymore spoke to People about her future prospects as an actress, revealing her interest in a new chapter in the action-comedy series. The idea of a potential reunion was floated on a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show by co-star Mindy Kaling, an idea Barrymore is open to given how much she enjoyed working on Charlie’s Angels. “They are interesting challenges because they have already been established. It’s really about building on something,” the actress said. “There’s so much story that it doesn’t feel like making movies. It’s like saying, ‘Do you want to spend your life doing this? With those people?”. Yes. I would introduce myself. I really would.”
Barrymore has also expressed interest in making another film with Hustle actor Adam Sandler: the two starred in the 2004 romantic comedy-drama 50 First Dates, as well as Blended and The Wedding Singer. She filmed Blended while she was pregnant with daughter Olive, who is now 10 years old.
Charlie’s Angels movies
Should another Charlie’s Angels movie come, a return of Barrymore would be fitting, considering she starred in and produced the original 2000 film, which also starred John Forsythe, Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu and Bill Murray. Charlie’s Angels was based on the 1970s television series of the same name starring Forsythe, and Barrymore received praise for her portrayal. The film spawned a sequel three years later, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, which also starred Demi Moore and comedian Bernie Mac. Both films star Diaz, Barrymore and Liu as private detectives for a never-ending millionaire. seen named Charlie Townsend. Each episode earned more than $264 million and $259 million respectively after its release, despite receiving mixed reviews.
The film franchise was later rebooted, with Barrymore executive producing Elizabeth Banks’ film Charlie’s Angels in 2019. The film starred Banks as Jane Kano alongside Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, Noah Centineo and Patrick Stewart star of Star Trek. There is no official news on a new Charlie’s Angels project.
In addition to her talk show, Barrymore also produces her own podcast series, Drew’s News, and her latest screen job was playing herself in the 2021 romantic comedy film A Castle for Christmas. Also known for her role as Casey Becker in the first Scream film, she made a voice cameo in the 2022 edition of the slasher film franchise.
